Abso(reso)lution
Maybe because I’m more of a task-oriented than goal-oriented person, or maybe because the New Year falls so close to my birthday, which is when I choose to be reflective and hopeful, or maybe because I’m a grumpy bitch, I don’t know, but I don’t make New Year’s resolutions. It seems that Mark Twain felt about as warmly about them as I do. (Or is it that I feel as warmly about them as he did?)
“Yesterday, everybody smoked his last cigar, took his last drink and swore his last oath. Today, we are a pious and exemplary community. Thirty days from now, we shall have cast our reformation to the winds and gone to cutting our ancient shortcomings considerably shorter than ever.”
– Mark Twain
So now I’m thinking that if I do make a resolution this year, it should be to read more Twain.
I’m outta here until Monday. (Yes, to Portland again. And yes, he really is THAT hot.) So I’ll say this now: Happy New Year, whether you make resolutions or not!
