At least we can all agree we’re lucky we don’t live in Rhode Island
I can’t even believe I’m doing this….
In an ongoing debate between GTB and not just me but pretty much everyone in my family (not to mention my friends who grew up in either Washington or Oregon), we have yet to determine whether or not Oregon drivers are really as bad as I think they are, or, at the very least, come up with conclusive evidence proving either side’s arguement.
Most of you are probably familiar with this particular debate. If you aren’t, here is a little tirade where I expressed my true feelings about becoming an Oregon driver.
Since the day that my driver’s license, and my car’s license plates, plainly declared that I am officially an Oregon driver, GTB and I have had a few discussions about my theories as to why Oregonians suck so bad. One of them, the one about Oregon being a lawless western state for a long time and only now becoming civilized as Portland becomes more metropolitan and the lawless drivers not being quite accustomed to “city” driving yet, almost had GTB convinced that I might be on to something.
But this morning, I found this. Shit.
I would argue that book smarts have very little to do with actual driving ability. So you know what blinkers are for. Good for you. If you aren’t using ’em, what good is that knowledge? In theory, you know that you should move to the right when a faster car comes up behind you on the freeway. Great, good first step. But if you don’t actually get the FUCK out the way, what’s the point of knowing it?
In any case, I fear I have a little less ground to stand on now.
Damn! I hate that.

The slight percentage Oregon has over Washington in this case is because one of the smartest people I know recently moved to Oregon and took the written test. Who cares about how to signal an unruly horse?

I still giggle every time I read the comments section on your post about becoming an Oregonian. I think it just must be that the top drivers are very competetive to be the best and therefore must put the true top drivers down to feel better about being #2. Sigh
