What’s bigger than “ginormous”?
Powell’s City of Books is getting bigger. Wha?
As a book and bookstore lover, this news makes me warm and giddy. Until I start thinking of the extra rooms I’ll have to weave through to get at whatever it is I’m looking for. I love that place because you can find just about anything there, but unless you navigate dizzying numbers of color-coded rooms well, it’s that finding that can be troublesome.
Don’t get me wrong, when GTB and I realized we didn’t have a copy of Harry Potter 5, Powell’s was the first place we went. I was happy that I had a selection of brand new, totally thrashed, and obviously read by a 13 year old with a penchant for eating Chee-tohs while reading from which to choose. (We bought that third one, by the way.) But I swear, figuring out if it was in “Children’s Mystery,” “Young Adult,” or “Sci-Fi and Fantasy” took us to three different rooms. I guess I shouldn’t complain; I did get a decent workout in that night.
So, hooray that Powell’s is getting even bigger. But damn, I might have to invest in a new pair of Easy Spirits for my next visit.
