Oh Gobo!
You know how memories of being high (not you, Mom) are kind of fuzzy? And the breakthrough ideas you had when you were smokin’ the reefer now seem stupid?
It is with the exact same form of recall that I fondly remember “Fraggle Rock.” It all seems so trippy and silly now. But at the time, I was totally into it. Totally bought its ridiculousness.
I remember when they first started running ads for it before the show actually began. The first one I saw featured Uncle Matt. He said something like, “Traveling Matt here, and I’m here to tell you about a new show coming…” My siblings and I all thought he said “Troubling Matt.” Given that my oldest brother’s name was Matt, we latched onto that like crazy, as you can imagine.
And we had neighbors we didn’t really like very much whose last name was Borg. So that the evil, scary, but ultimately stupid neighbors in Fraggle Rock were called Gorgs only made, like, perfect sense to us.
Anyway… Joe was too old for Fraggle Rock, and I had a sneaking suspicion that I might be, too. Katie-did was the perfect age. She collected the toys, knew the songs by heart, and watched the show religiously. Since she was already watching it, I figured it wouldn’t be too uncool of me to idly sit there while it was on. So, naturally, I’ve seen most of the episodes.
That said, I couldn’t have told you the main characters’ names (other than Uncle Matt, of course) before I read this news about them making the show into a movie. I’ve successfully blocked out all details of the show, which is unfortunate because I really did love it, even if I wouldn’t have admitted to it at the time.
So I greet the news that a movie is being made with glee … and the desire to find a pot hookup in Portland.

I LOVED the complete and utter detail and motions of the little construction guys. Hell, I’m older than you and I watched it…then again, I like watching G.I. Joe until I was in high school. God, my life is pathetic……
