Not to underplay the human tragedy, but…
I’ve been thinking a lot the past few days about the animals left behind in New Orleans. The woman looking for her cat D.C. on NPR this morning just about broke my heart. The picture of the big, Mastiff-looking dog stuck in a tree upset me so much I had to change the channel for fear that I’d picture him over and over again as I was trying to go to sleep.
So I was sad to hear that the aquarium in New Orleans didn’t fare so well. I don’t value fish as much as I do dogs and cats, but it’s still sad. And I was glad to hear the white alligator is OK. That said, as much of an animal lover as I am, I can think of no greater nightmare than riding out a hurricane in the reptile house. I think the only person more likely than me to stay up all night with that thought is my friend Miss Glamm.

UPDATE: The ASPCA is doing good work, as usual, to help with this particular problem.

Before I even finished reading this entry I was thinking about how you would be thinking of me when you wrote this! And there it was in b/w–your acknowledgement of my utter fear of just about all reptiles. Not to underplay the tragedy of it all, of course, but as an aside, when I was told that the flood waters were filled with snakes (thank you, BFE), I just about passed out.

That sure is a pretty gator you got pictured. Is he your pet? If not can I buy him?I would sure love to have one. It would be pretty interesting to see the look on people’s faces, as we went for a walk in the park. Obviously , with those short legs, it would take all day. It might even be a good conversation starter with the ladies.
Feeding time would be a blast.
Thanks for your kind words and the link.
